I know this may sound a bit extreme, but I have a love affair with fresh produce. Why such devotion to this vast array of colorful delicacies? Because they’re fresh, beautiful, are full of mystery and surprises and…they love me back. Every time I turn around there is another study done on the intelligent properties of fruits and vegetables, and their ability to keep our bodies in balanced, functioning, and living longer with a greater quality of life! The latest study that has me totally excited (because I adore these little babies) is a study on pit fruits. The gorgeous cuties that belong to this club?…Peaches, nectarines, plums, apricots, and cherries. Just saying those words makes you want to grab a perfectly ripe one and sink your teeth into it, doesn’t it? As if the fact that they’re absolutely delicious wasn’t enough, here’s what will get you to commit to keeping them in your Skinny Life pantry forever.

Pit Fruit Facts:

A study done by studies by Texas AgriLife Research shows that stone fruits known as drupes contain compounds that could reduce serious health risks from obesity and inflammation found with metabolic syndrome. Since insulin resistance or diabetes, hypertension, cholesterol abnormalities and abdominal obesity affect millions of people every year, this could be a very important finding. We always need to consider our entire lifestyle, genetic predisposition, and role diet (which is defined as what we eat) plays in our health and longevity.

Dr Luis Cisneros-Zevallos in Science Daily is quoted “these fruits have bioactive compounds that can potentially fight metabolic syndrome,” . “Our work indicates that phenolic compounds present in these fruits have anti-obesity, anti-inflammatory and anti-diabetic properties in different cell lines and may also reduce the oxidation of bad cholesterol LDL which is associated to cardiovascular disease.”

“What is unique to these fruits, he said, is that their mixture of the bioactive compounds work simultaneously within the different components of the disease.

Why is it important to know about metabolic syndrome? Metabolic syndrome is a combination of medical disorders that, when occurring together, increase the risk of developing cardiovascular disease and diabetes. It is estimated that 50 million Americans have it. YIKES!!! Metabolic syndrome, also called insulin resistance syndrome, is a dangerous thing to have.

I’m encouraging each one of you to dive into your own research on the amazing health benefits of hundreds of varieties of fruits and veggies that will keep you looking better and feeling better than you could imagine.

Make a deliberate effort to get two fruit servings and three vegetable servings in every single day. If we focus on what we must eat to be totally healthy and fit instead of what we must deprive ourselves of, we’ll achieve greater, longer-lasting results in our quest to live the Skinny Life!

Have a fabulous Skinny Day!
