A common question many of us wonder is whether or not we should eat prior to working out. Whether you workout often or are just a beginner, when you eat and what you choose to put into your body will impact the success of your workout.
Eating before a workout, as opposed to working out on an empty stomach, has been shown to be beneficial for our bodies. A healthy, light, snack, fuels your body so you can function at your best. Choose a low-fat snack with proteins and healthy carbohydrates.
Here are 3 of my favorite choices:
1. Protein Bar – Pick a low sugar one with at least 10 grams of protein!
2. Low Fat Yogurt with Fruit – Use plain, non-sugared yogurt.
3. Nuts and Fruit – Great for an energy kick!
Not only will eating right enable your body to build muscle, it will also restore your energy. You will find that you are able to train for longer periods of time and at a higher intensity level. You won’t get tired as quickly. Eating before a workout will also enhance your concentration and reduce the risk of cramping and stomach aches.
As always, make certain your body stays hydrated throughout your day and while working out. Only drinking water during a workout is not enough to keep your body hydrated.
