Weightloss Resolutions in 2015
Did you know that over 35% of New Year’s resolutions are broken before February, according to a poll by the time management firm Franklin Covey. “People tend to fall off the weight loss wagon so quickly because their goals are unrealistic,” says Toby Amidor, a registered dietitian based in New York City. “When people feel as though they’ve failed, they tend to throw in the towel for good instead of giving their resolution another shot.”
So what can you do to avoid being part of the 35%?
Set realistic goals. Skinny Life is about making long-term changes, and not setting you up for failure with promises of quick weight loss. So how does this relate to your New Year’s Resolutions?
When setting goals, set small, measurable, goals. When you achieve these goals, reward yourself (and find another way other than food). Instead of telling yourself: “I am going to lose 30 pounds” replace this with “I am going to lose 2 pounds per week.” This makes you feel more focused and excited about hitting your goals.
Stay away from fad diets. These diets do not focus on what is going on inside of your mind and they don’t teach you how to make permanent lifestyle changes. Sure, who doesn’t want to lose 30 lbs QUICK? Truth is, you will probably gain it all back and then some if you aren’t making changes that you can live with . . . forever.
Make sure you are eating enough calories — just make sure they are the RIGHT calories! Is it possible to eat until you are full and still lose weight? The answer is YES! IF you are eating the right foods. A calorie is not a calorie. You want to make sure your body is getting the right nutrition and amount of calories so you don’t feel sluggish, weak, and tired.
Stay away from the scale. Don’t weight yourself every day — your body fluctuates and a 1 pound water weight gain may make you feel like throwing in the towel. Weigh yourself 1-2 times a week – maybe once in the middle of the week to see how close you are to reaching your weekly goals!
